Aqueous solutions of NaOH, HCl, and metal chelates are suitable for the partial extraction of decarboxylating substances from the A‐horizon of a brown earth and the B‐horizon of two podsols. Temperatures above 50° are not to be used for extraction, since otherwise decarboxylation already commences. The decarboxylating substances were more easily extractable from the podsol than from the brown earth. The organic substances of the podsol are richer in decarboxylating groups than those of the brown earth.
