A preparative method is given for the partial benzylation of quinitol to 4‐benzyloxy‐ cyclo hexanol. This compound was oxidized to 4‐benzyloxy‐ cyclo hexanone, which on alkylation furnished methyl 5‐benzyloxy‐2‐oxo‐ cyclo hexylacetate.
