The isolation of Aspidin, Flavaspidic acid, Albaspidin, Aspidinol, and of a new compound, Desaspidin, from Dryopteris austriaca (Jacq.) Woynar is described. Treatment of several samples of this plant from different places showed significant variation in the Aspidin‐Desaspidin content. The existence of two chemically different subspecies of Dryopteris austriaca (Jacq.) Woynar is suggested.
