The capacity of forming metal chelates of a few α‐pyridyl carbinols and of an α‐piperidyl carbinol with Cu 2+ ‐ and Ni 2+ ‐ions has been determined. As far as the stability of the chelate ring is concerned, pyridyl‐(2)‐carbinol is almost as strong a complexing agent as oxine. Introduction of a methyl group in α′‐position heavily decreases complex formation.
