1. By incubating the glutamine synthesizing enzyme with AD 32 P and ATP the latter became radioactive by exchange with AD 32 P. Our enzyme preparation still contained some myokinase which it was impossible to remove. Using suitable inhibitors (mercurochrome, 0,1‐m. CaCl 2 ) we show that the exchange is only partly due to myokinase. There exists a second reaction, catalysed by glutamine synthese, which may be explained by phosphorylation of the enzyme, thus:.
