1. In most crystals, only at higher temperature the ionic mobility attains sufficiently large value to permit the ions to migrate within the crystal. However, substances which show structurally conditioned defects, such as lattice regions with different degrees of order, have also at ordinary temperature a pronounced reactivity which is related to ionic migration in the interstitial lattice.
