The vapor‐liquid equilibrium of the system water‐pyridine was studied at 50° and 80°. The diagram of this system is shown in various textbooks as an example of extreme deviation from ideal behaviour with a partial pressure curve crossing the straight line of Raoult 's law. In the present study the results of previous investigations were not confirmed. The measurements of Zawidzki and Fowler are inaccurate, especially at low water concentrations. The new measurements were tested with the equations of Margules, van Laar and Redlich‐Kister .
