Abstract The dielectric properties of solutions of ω‐aminoacids in mixed solvents are compared with the properties calculated for a simple model. As a model representing the dissolved dipolar ion a system of concentric spheric shells was assumed. The inner sphere with a central microscopic dipole and the concentric shells are models for the dipolar ion and the solvate layers respectively. The influence of the dielectric constants of the dipolar ion, and of the solvate layers on the electric susceptibility of solutions of dipolar ions, sensitively depends on the value of the inner dielectric constant of the dipolar ion and – although much less – of the solvate layers. Assuming a selective solvation, the measured values can be interpreted qualitatively.
