The presented article describes the investigation of three main variables of the health care system in Austria by applying time series analysis. The quantities under consideration are the stock of physicians working in the ambulatory sector, the number of medical services provided and the related costs. The article discusses non‐stationarity and unit root tests and presents an outlook for the considered variables. One conclusion to be drawn from the presented analysis is the presence of a stochastic element in the analyzed variables.
