COVER ILLUSTRATION For the momentary synchrostates sustained in successive 50ms time windows over a long‐chain reasoning task, this EEG study extracted 8 prototypical functional connectivity patterns of cortical networks, and constructed the Markov chains of synchrostate transition. Compared to average‐ability adolescents, the math‐gifted adolescents show higher occurrence frequency and mean duration in maintaining the connectivity patterns of central executive network and right fronto‐temporal network (illustrated as cortical networks with blue nodes), as well as greater transition capacity both in their self‐loops and from other 6 types of synchrostates (illustrated as cortical networks with red nodes).
