Factor analytic studies of behavior checklists used with elderly clients are reviewed. An analysis of the kinds of items contained in the measures and the kinds of populations studied is presented. Preliminary evidence was found for the robustness of three factors, here named adaptive behavior, extrapersonal maladaptive behavior, and memory and orientation. On the basis of this, a model of behavior in the elderly is proposed. Implications for future research and the design of behavior checklists are discussed.
