Recent research has focused on the behavioural disturbances in dementia patients. The authors review the literature on abnormal eating behaviour in dementia patients and then retrospectively examine a large cohort of dementia patients for such patterns. Thirteen per cent of these patients were found to have significant abnormalities in eating behaviour. These patients are described and possible aetiologies are discussed. A more thorough description of the non‐cognitive symptomatology of dementia is considered important for future research on dementia syndromes.
