Abstract The discovery of a fauna of Lower Llandovery age in a conglomeratic deposit previously considered to be of “Bala” age has shown that there has been misunderstanding of the stratigraphical succession and structure of the rocks of the Towy anticline near Llanafan‐fawr. The stratigraphy of this Silurian succession is outlined; the fauna listed and pre‐existing palaeogeographical interpretations reconsidered.
