For each pair of loci among the four loci in a linkage group, a two‐point analysis was performed. It consisted of estimating means, variances, and correlation of male and female recombination fractions and approximating the joint likelihood by a bivariate normal density. The pairwise results were assumed independent and combined. The resulting likelihood was maximized over five parameters: three map distances, a constant ratio of female‐to‐make distance, and the parameter in Felsenstein's mapping function.
