A new run‐of‐river power plant with a total capacity of 531 MW is being built about 50 kilometers southeast of the Chilean capital Santiago at an altitude of about 2,500 m above sea level. The Chilean tunnel construction division of Strabag SE was commissioned by Alto Maipo S.p.A. in 2012 with the planning work and a construction contract for one of the two sections of the tunnel and civil engineering works for this project. To secure the tunnelling work, DSI Underground Chile has supplied a comprehensive system of support equipment since the start of construction, see page 390 (photo DSI Underground) .
