Sedimentary environments at the Mwanganda site area are reconstructed. Micro‐stratigraphic analyses show that the site was located on the bank of a shallow, braided, paleostream and that bone and artifactual debris were not deposited by paleocurrents, but rather resulted from hominid activity. This accords with the interpretations of the original excavators of the site. Based on sedimentological studies, it is apparent, however, that the site contents were rearranged by overbank currents that swept across the site at peak discharges. Thus, the distribution pattern of the site contents do not directly reflect hominid meat processing activities that occurred at the site.
