An arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) method for non‐breaking free surface flow problems is presented. The characteristic‐based split (CBS) scheme has been employed to solve the ALE equations. A simple mesh smoothing procedure based on coordinate averaging (Laplacian smoothing) is employed in the calculations. The mesh velocity is calculated at each time step and incorporated as part of the scheme. Results presented show an excellent agreement with the available experimental data.
