Summary An efficient numerical method is developed for solving the natural convection in two‐dimensional cavities. The numerical scheme is proposed by using second‐order projection scheme in time direction and Legendre‐spectral in spatial variable of the incompressible flow. Finally, a series of numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of our algorithm. The numerical strategies developed in this article could be readily applied to study other incompressible fluid problems.
