Starting from limonene 2,5,6‐trimethylheptan‐1‐ol, an alcohol with a lavandulol skeleton have been synthesized. The key step of the synthesis was catalytic hydrogenolysis of 3‐isopropenyl‐6‐oxo‐heptanal, providing 5,6‐dimethylheptan‐2‐ol in a good yield. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
