The essential oil of seafennel ( Crithmum maritimum L.) growing in Campania (Southern Italy) was isolated by hydrodistillation in a 0.17% (v/w) yield related to the fresh weight. GC‐MS analysis showed the presence of 58 compounds, about 50 of which were identified. Monoterpenes constituted 95.0% of the total; γ‐terpinene (37%), methylthymol (29%), p ‐cymene (10%) and β‐pinene (8%) were the main oil components. Some differences were found in comparison with seafennel oil analysed in earlier studies, which suggest the occurrence of different chemotypes.
