Essential oils from six Lippia species (fam. Verbenaceae), namely Lippia javanica (Burm f.) Spreng., L. dauensis (Chiov.) Chiov., L. carviodora Meikle, L. carviodora var. minor Meikle, L. grandifolia Mart & Schau., and L. wilmsii H. H. W. Pearson, have been analysed by GC and GO‐MS. Myrcenone, cis‐ and trans‐ ocimenone have been found to be the major constituents of essential oil of L. Javanica. β ‐Ocimene, cis ‐tagetone and 2‐methyl‐6‐methylene oct‐7‐en‐4‐one are major compounds of L. dauensis oil. L. carviodora var. minor oil consists primarily of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, β‐cubenene being the major constituent.
