The volatile fraction of ‘Mapo’ tangelo essential oil was studied using chromatography on a neutral alumina column and gas chromatography with a SE 52 capillary column. Its composition has been compared with that of the essential oils of mandarin and grapefruit. The olfactory characteristics and the composition of the essential oil are in relation to the origin of tangelo which was obtained in Sicily by crossbreeding mandarin with grapefruit.
