Echinophora tenuifolia L. subsp. sibthorpiana Guss. is a bushy plant widespread in most regions of Turkey. The composition of the essential oil obtained by steam distillation from aerial parts of the plant in full bloom was analyzed by capillary GLC and GLC‐MS. α‐Phellandrene was the main constituent of the oil (51.0%), followed by methyleugenol (24.8%), β‐phellandrene (5.0%) and p ‐cymene (4.3%). Several trials, using different techniques, have confirmed the total absence of sesquiterpenes in the essential oil.
