The composition of the steam‐volatile leaf oils of Fijian Ocimum basilicum L. (sweet basil) has been determined by the use of capillary gas‐liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The major components of the oils are methyl cinnamate, linalool, methyleugenol and eugenol.
