The composition of essential oil obtained from the aerial parts of Russian knapweed [ Acroptilon repens (L.) DC.] (Asteraceae) was analyzed by GC and GC‐MS. Seventy‐two components were identified in the essential oil of Acroptilon repens (L.) DC. Major constituents of the essential oil were α ‐copaene (22.8%), β ‐caryophyllene (9.5%), germacrene D (9.0%), β ‐cubebene (7.9%) and caryophyllene oxide (6.4%).
