The essential oil of Valeriana sisymbriifolia growing wild in Iran was obtained by hydrodistallation and analyzed by GC‐MS technique. Forty‐one components representing 90.2% of the total oil were identified. The main components of the oil were β ‐atlantone and 14‐hydroxy‐9‐epi‐( E )‐caryophyllene (16.3%), viridiflorol (11.4%), isovaleric acid (7.3%), ( Z )‐ α ‐bisabolene (5.9%), allo‐aromadendrene‐epoxide (5.5%) and borneol (5.2%).
