The essential oil from leaves and twigs of Luma chequen from Peru, obtained by steam distillation, was analysed by a combination of GC–FID, GC–MS and 13 C‐NMR. Forty constituents (93.6% of the total sample) were identified. Monoterpenes constituted the main fraction (87.7%), the major ones being α ‐pinene (57.3%) and 1,8‐cineole (7.5%), whereas sesquiterpenes only reached 2.9% of the sample analysed.
