The composition of the essential oil obtained from the dried flowering aerial parts of Phlomis bruguieri Desf. (Labiatae) was analysed by GC and GC–MS for the first time; 99 components were identified. The major constituents of the essential oil were germacrene D (23.6%), 4‐hydroxy‐4‐methyl‐2‐pentanone (15.0%), α ‐pinene (6.8%) and β ‐caryophyllene (6.7%). Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
