Two new β‐santalanes, 9‐hydroxy‐santala‐2(14),11‐diene and 11‐hydroxy‐santala‐2(14),8‐diene, along with the known β‐photosantalol A and β‐photosantalol B, have been isolated from the liverwort Gackstroemia decipiens (Lepidolaenaceae). Furthermore, a recently reported bergamotane derivative, (−)‐13‐hydroxy‐bergamota‐2,11‐diene, could be identified. The structures were elucidated by NMR spectroscopy and the scents were characterized by olfactory evaluation. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
