An additional record of the genus Mespilodaphne (Lauraceae) for Panama

During a floristic study in Altos de Campana National Park (Panama Oeste Province), in 1993, an interesting unknown Lauraceae species with very large fruits and double‐rimmed cupules was collected. Twenty years later, it became possible to obtain flowering vouchers, which were important to identify this peculiar entity. Through micro‐morphological studies of flowers, we determined that this unknown taxon is a new country record of the genus Mespilodaphne . The new record, Mespilodaphne morae (Gómez‐Laur.) Trofimov, is illustrated using SEM micrographs, as well as photographs of the vegetative and reproductive structures of live material.
