Impatiens hookeriana Arnott is a lesser known Indo‐Sri Lankan balsam belongs to the family Balsaminaceae. It is previously treated as a heterotypic synonym of Impatiens grandis in literature. However, critical studies of protologues, herbarium specimens and fresh collections of I. hookeriana and I. grandis , we conclude that the former species warrant acceptance as distinct species, hence it is reinstated here. A detailed description, nomenclatural notes and a photo‐plate is provided here to delimit and recognize this unique jewel weed in the field.
