The taxonomic status of Draparnaldiopsis G.M. Sm. & Klyver is discussed and the circumscription of the genus is readdressed. Draparnaldia yajnavalkyae Manasi Mandal & D. Maity sp. nov ., from Sikkim Himalaya is described and illustrated. This new species was discovered in the high mountains of Lhonak Valley, North Sikkim and is known only from the type locality. A detailed description of the species along with an illustration and other images is provided. The new species is compared with its most similar and closely related species Draparnaldia mutabilis (Roth) Bory. The characters of the new species bridge those of the genera Draparnaldia Bory and Draparnaldiopsis and thus Draparnaldiopsis is considered a synonym of Draparnaldia . An amplified diagnosis of Draparnaldia is provided. New combinations are made for the names of the nine previously described taxa under the genus Draparnaldiopsis . There is already a Draparnaldia simplex K. I. Mey. and therefore, Draparnaldiopsis simplex C. Jao requires a new name in that genus. Draparnaldia forestii Manasi Mandal & D. Maity nom. nov . is thus provided.
