Hibiscus diversifolius. subsp. diversifolius (Malvaceae) has been recently recorded as a new addition to the flora of Egypt. This study provides the first detailed morphological, anatomical, palynological and seed coat characteristics for this taxon. Anatomical investigations of stem, petiole and leaf characteristics under light microscopy, as well as scanning electron microscopy investigations of leaf surfaces, pollen grains and seed pattern suggest that this taxon is closely related to Hibiscus sabdariffa of section Furcaria .
