Abstract The subtribe Ecliptinae in West Africa is treated with about 36 taxa in 24 species aligned in seven genera. The genera are Wedelia, Complaya, Blainvillea Synedrella, Eclipta, Melanthera and Verbesina. W. trilobata , in West Africa, is now recognised as Complaya trilobata. All the Aspilia species in West Africa are transferred to Wedelia. In this study, microcharacters are extensively employed in the generic and specific circumscription and in making the new combinations.
