Abstract The comparison between Vermifrux abyssinica (A.R ICH. ) G ILLETT and other members of Loteae tribe demonstrates that this species is most similar to Dorycnopsis gerardii (L.) B OISS. The idea of the affinity of V. abyssinica with the species Lotus subgen. Syrmatium is not confirmed. V. abyssinica and D. gerardii differ from the genus Lotus as well as from the genus Anthyllis not less than Anthyllis differs from Lotus. On the other hand the distinctions between V. abyssinica and D. gerardii do not exceed the differences between species within the genus Lotus , so there are reasons to join the genera Vermifrux and Dorycnopsis. The new combination Dorycnopsis abyssinica (A.R ICH. ) V.T ICHOM. & D.D.S OKOLOFF and the corrected description of the genus Dorycnopsis are given.
