The comparative analysis of the morphological features in Tripodion and Hammatolobium shows that they cannot be treated as members of the same genus. Tripodion tetraphyllum and Hammatolobium are considered to differ from each other in both of the features used by LASSEN (1986) to distinguish the genera Tripodion s. l. (incl. Hammatolobium ) and Anthyllis s. str. T. tetraphyllum has dehiscent and not lomentaceous fruits and differs in this important character from Hammatolobium as well as from Anthyllis s. str. The standards of Hammatolobium lotoides and H. kremerianum differ from the standard of T. tetraphyllum and resemble the ones of certain species of Anthyllis . Two subgenera of Hammatolobium are accepted.
