The present paper is a continuation of a set of investigations aimed at description of the Lower Volga valley vegetation (GOLUB and MIRKIN 1986; GOLUB and ČORBADZE 1989; GOLUB et al. 1991). The paper covers desert vegetation communities formed on ecotopes which are not or unimportantly affected by floods and ground waters. Two new classes have been determined i.e. Artemisietea lerchianae (communities on loamy‐sandy and loamy soils) and Artemisietea tschernievianae (communities on sandy soils). Floristic composition syntaxa of lower rank is dependent on pasture load intensity, sod deterioration degree and height of ecotopes position above a lower water level of the water streams.
