Studies have been carried out on the cuticle and epidermis of ten species of Erythrina L. Foliar cuticular and epidermal structures of ten species of genus namely, Erythrina blakei PARK., E. crista‐galli L., E. fusca LOUR., E. humeana SPRENG., E. lysistemon HUTCH., E. resupinata ROXB., E. stricta ROXB., E. valutina WILLD., E. variegata L. and E. vespertilio BENTH. have been studied with the help of scanning electron microscope and light microscope. Several unique characters such as, network of papillae branched biarmed and stellate trichomes, otherwise unknown in tribe Phaseoleae, have been recorded in various species. The cuticular and epidermal characters support the placements of genus Erythrina in a separate tribe (Erythrineae) of its own.
