Malabaila graveolens BIEB., a generotype of Malabaila , has been shown to be identical or very similar to the species of Pastinaca in all essential taxonomic characters including carpological. Thus the species and closely related, if the separate. M. vaginans are the members of Pastinaca. But it is impossible to include all other “Malabailas” into Pastinaca , because they differ from the latter in some significant features of fruit structure. These species form a separate genus, intermediate between Pastinaca (incl. Malabaila s. str.) and Zosima. Its correct name seems to be Leiotulus EHRENBERG. The detailed carpological descriptions and synonymy summaries for all Leiotulus species have been given, and new nomenclatural combinations have been proposed.
