The present study is an attempt to assess the effect of the environmental factors on the pattern and distribution of the plant communities in the Holy places area in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Wide variation in topography and soil characteristics have a marked influence on the water resources and consequently on the vegetation. Eleven plant communities recognized by species dominance and habitat features have been distinguished. These include four communities dominated by trees and shrubs, five communities dominated by suffrutescent species and two are dominated by ephemerals. The floristic composition and the habitat features are described and the ecological relationships between the communities are briefly discussed.
