This paper is a survey of the plant communities along the road from Aden to Sheikh Salem (Abyan) on the coast of the Gulf of Aden. The area consists mainly of sand dunes and salt marshes. Nine plant communities are found. It is a starting point for the study of the vegetation of Yemen as a whole.
