The seed coat microsculpturing (LM and SEM) of nine species of Ipomoea L. has been investigated. The spermodern patterns are either simple reticulate, lophate, rugulate or papillose. This study favours the inclusion of I. tuberosa in Ipomoea and maintenance of I. quamoclit under a separate section Quamoclit. A key is presented for delimiting the taxa studied on the basis of seed morphology.
