A study on the foliar phytochemicals of the members of Primulaceae and Myrsinaceae revealed that the former family characteristically produces unique flavones and the latter the common flavonols. The uniqueness of the Primulaceae is brought out and a probable origin from the Violales is proposed. Myrsinaceae and Theophrastaceae are grouped in the Myrsinales which are derived from the Theales. Due to their probable relationships, the Plumbaginaceae also are included in the Myrsinales.
