The distribution pattern of free amino acids in 14 taxa belonging to seven genera representing four tribes of the family Boraginaceae has been studies by unidimensional chromatography. The Paired Affinity (PA), Group Affinity (GA) indices and Isolation Values IVi and IVn, have been calculated for the taxa and the PA values are represented in polygonal graphs. The overlapping distribution of amino acids indicates close interrelationship between the taxa of the family. The study does not lend support to H UTCHINSON 's (1973) segregation of Ehretiaceae into an independent family as distinct from Boraginaceae.
