The present paper treats 33 taxa of desmids belonging to 8 genera collected from ponds, paddy fields, ditches and streams of Quilon district, Kerala. Of these, Cosmarium clepsydra N ORDST . var. duplex P RESCOTT , Cosmarium depressum (N ÄG .) L UND f., Cosmarium reniforme (R ALFS ) A RCHER var. compressum N ORDST . f., Cosmarium subdanicum W EST et W EST , Cosmarium umbilicatum L UTKEM ., Staurastrum striolatum (N ÄG .) A RCHER var. divergens W EST et W EST and Desmidium grevillei (K ÜTZ .) DE B ARY f. are supposed to be new to India and all the taxa are reported for the first time from Kerala.
