From the quantified qualitative and chromatographic data on the distribution of different classes of secondary metabolites and phenolic constituents respectively in 14 taxa of Bignoniaceae spread over 5 genera, it is tentatively inferred that Spathodea is a relatively primitive taxon and Tabebuia an advanced one. There is a fair degree of kinship, as evidenced by the synthetic numerical indices which range from 851 to 1027 and the affinity among the members is also expressed in polygons.
