A new taxon of sectional rank, Nemorense C HILD , is proposed for the genus Solanum L. It embraces 6–7 species from subtropical S. America; 2 closely allied species from the eastern foothills of Peru and Ecuador; 2 from eastern Brasil; one from the Guyanas and 2 species, one Brasilian, one meso‐American, which are of uncertain placement but which, seem to fit the concept of the group on the basis of inadequate material or description. All but one of the species were incluced within the anomalously prickly taxon, section Aculeigerum S EITHE . The remaining species, formerly of the monotypic section Herposolanum B ITTER , unarmed, is recognized as belonging here.
