Five species of the Arabis hirsuta group occur on the Iberian Peninsula, three of them are endemic: Arabis sadina (Samp.) Coutinho (2 n = 32), A. juressi Rothm. s. ampl. (2 n = 32), and A. stenocarpa Boiss. et Reut. (2 n = 16); A. hirsuta (L.) Scop. s. str. (2 n = 32) and A. planisiliqua (Pers.) Reichenb. (incl. A. lusitanica Boiss., 2n = 16) show an essentially wider range and are to be found in the neighbouring regions too. Chromosome numbers from Iberian provenances of all the species are reported, of A. sadina and A. juressi for the first time. The morphological characters, the nomenclature and the distribution of the five species are contrasted.
