Freirean pedagogy continues to be an essential component in the construction of a fair, democratic global society. This chapter introduces Paulo Freire to those new to his thinking as well as update those who have long known of his work, about the global extent of its influence and impact, making clear that Freire's legacy goes well beyond his literacy method. Freire's theory is expressed in concepts and categories that reach a wider scope of education, including an anthropology‐based theory of knowledge, which has direct implications for evaluation, especially evaluation's role in generating and disseminating knowledge.
