In this paper, a novel blind timing offset estimation method is proposed for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In order to eliminate the intersymbol interference as well as intercarrier interference, a cyclic prefix is appended to each OFDM symbol which makes the transmitted signal appear a cyclic structure. The proposed blind method is developed based on this cyclic structure and does not require any prior information. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
